Biography
I am born and raised in Vista, CA, where I also currently reside with my family. I graduated with a degree in Literature and Writing in 2004 from Cal State San Marcos. In 2001, I was afforded the opportunity to study a year abroad in Tuebingen, Germany in 2001. After a string of odd jobs after college, in 2005, I was given an opportunity to learn how to tattoo. Tattooing over the past 15 years allows me to have a flexible schedule, has given me opportunity to travel nationally and internationally. It has also given me an intimate glimpse into the lives of so many people, from all walks of life.
In 2011, I began producing community art events which has evolved into a small arts non-profit, The Backfence Society. One of our programs, Only Losers Litter, is a monthly performance art gathering where we put on super hero capes and clean up litter.
I served as the Chair to the Public Arts Commission from 2015-2019. I am currently involved on the Board of Directors through the Vista Chamber of Commerce and have been nominated as Business Person of the Year for the Heroes of Vista Annual Gala. I also serve as Vice President of the downtown Vista association, Discover Vista, hosting events and gathering community.
I joined the Vista Democratic Club in 2018. I briefly entered the race for Vista Mayor in 2018, but ended up stepping back due to personal reasons that made me take a pause and instead helped two candidates in their races for Vista City Council. Councilmember Corinna Contreras won her seat and it gives the neighborhoods, I have lived in my entire life, a compassionate and forward thinking leader; I also worked with candidate/community advocate Tazheen Nizam who planted a seed in the conservative leaning District 4 of Vista with her campaign. I am volunteering and donating to Katie Melendez candidate for Vista City Council District 3.
Last year, I also joined the San Diego Progressive Democratic Club and was elected as the Vice Chair of the North Chapter. The main club endorsed Bernie and I feel accomplished because I came to that meeting to share my personal story and contribute to that decision.
Questions & Answers
Questions from The League of Women Voters San Diego (LWVSD) and the League of Women Voters of North County San Diego (LWVNCSD) (3)
I commit to my commitments. If elected I promise to make it to every meeting and to do my homework studying the issues before me. I am a curious person. I love reading. I have an active social life and I like to discuss things with friends. My profession allows me a flexible schedule and the privilege of donating my time to causes that are important to me and helping my activist friends when asked - BECAUSE WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
In 2011, I started hosting pop-up art shows with fellow artists and began recognizing my ability to bring people together around creativity and community. This evolved into a non-profit art organization in 2016, The Backfence Society. One of our programs is a monthly litter cleanup called Only Losers Litter, where we invite participants to wear super hero capes and make a spectacle out of picking up trash in our shared environment. San Diego County is one of the most beautiful places on planet Earth and there is litter everywhere - it is a constant visual reminder that we need to do better.
I have a lot of energy and I am an industrious person and I have solid values and believe in equity and LISTENING.
I believe greed and corruption undermine any progress we think we may be making and it exacerbates another major problem we face in our democracy: APATHY. We need people to get involved at all levels of government and in our community organizations. We need to energize people to feel that their voices matter, that you can be a regular, working class person and that your voice matters in this party. We also need to tax the rich. Wealth inequality is out of control, my generation owns so little because we live in an oligarchy and it is creating serfdom. We deserve better.
I believe this is our party. We need to raise our standards and demand a higher quality life. Healthcare is a human right. Education must be a top priority because children are our future and how we invest in them is how we invest in ourselves. We deserve an amazing environment free from health affecting harm to our bodies and our lives. We deserve to live in a world where we work hard for justice everyday and we need to LISTEN.
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. She is speaking truth to power and serving the people. I feel energized by her story and her passion to serve and stand up for working class people.
Henry Wallace, Vice President to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He was a farmer and an intellectual and he stayed away from cigar parties and studied classic art and read books. He was a visionary behind the New Deal and I seriously wonder where our party would be, had he won the Vice Presidential nomination over Truman.
My Dad. I grew up in a working class family. My Dad is a Union Carpenter and my Mom a Registered Nurse. My Dad is a lifelong Democrat and talks politics and about working class issues everywhere he goes. His values are to invest in the future through education, work hard but get paid for your work because it is valuable. My Dad quoting my whole life, "Without labor, there is no wealth."

Michael (Mike) Bullock is 2nd Vice President of the Democratic Club of Carlsbad and Oceanside (DEMCCO) and a twice-elected member of the San Diego County Democratic Party Central Committee. He has authored resolutions that were adopted by DEMCCO, the Central Committee, and the California Democratic Party (CDP). They are based on his system engineering work regarding transportation and our climate crisis.
His paper deriving a set of enforceable measures to ensure that California cars and trucks would achieve a critial 2030 climate-stabilizing target was presented to the Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA) in 2016. He presented a car-parking policy report at an AWMA Conference in 2010 and presented on the topic of Climate and Car-Parking Policy at the “Towards Carless Cities” conference in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2012. This will be my primary professional obligation. I will attend all meeting and prepare for those meeting so as to excell at fullfiling my responsibilities. Due to my focus on climate literacy as defined in the California Democratic Party Platform and on transportation policies that will lead to having the category of cars and light-duty trucks achieve climate-stabilizing targets, I will have a fairly full schedule of meetings with office holders and candidates. I will also do presentations to groups on these topics, as requested. I also feel that part of my responsibiity is to participate in decision-making processes, especially the forulation and the implementation of Climate Action Plans.
We must protect our nation's sovereignty and democracy from attacks on our elections. We must defeat Donald Trump, who is quite likely compromised by money he as taken from Russion oligarchs at the direction of Vladamir Putin. In 2016, on Facebook alone, the Russians contacted, at least once, 115 million Americans. We won in 2018 but in 2020 we may face new threats from Russia and others. I voice these concerns often.
We are on a path to destabilize our Earth's climate. That will end most life forms on Earth, including our own species. We must achieve large reductions (I have the numbers) in our GHG emissions by 2030 or we will not be able to get off this path. On this path our county will end. So there is nothing more patriotic than working for climate stabilization at a livable level.
The policies I have gotten into the CDP Platform are a roadmap to climate stabilization. However, there are still some gaps and besides this, the Platform must be legislated. To improve the Platform, I get resoluions adopted by my Club, then the Central Committee, and then use this to propose the ideas to the CDP Plaltform Committee. Sometimes the CDP Environmental Caucus will help.
Governor Brown's work has been a true inspiration to me. He was a true leader on climate change. He knew how to get win elections and knew how to move us forward.
Martin Luther King is the greatest American in my lifetime. He was inspirational and courageous. He was our greatest civil right leader. But he was more. He was a great American. Against the advise of his civil-rights colleagues, he opposed the Vietnam war. His death was a personal loss but it was a loss for America that will probably be fatal. He would have been a strong leader in the movement to save our planet from climate destabilization. He would have understood the changes we need and he might have had the political capital to make it happen. We are left with little hope without Dr. King.
There are young leaders that give us hope. Congressman Mike Levin turned out to be a person that has the focus to learn the details of our climate crisis and see the measures that will be needed to give us a chance to survive. He has put together a staff that will work this problem, reaching out for help as needed, if we can flip the White House and the Senate, which we must do, for many reasons.

I see myself as a progressive institutionalist. Policies must be based on facts and reputable research. I work for the values shown in my "Priorities" listed above. I am interested in the ideas of others, especially of the Democrats in the 76th Assembly District, since I strive to work for their interests. When candidates come before our Central Committee for posible endorsement, I do my homework before they appear, by looking at their website. If their website fails to mention our anthropogenic (man made)climate change crisis, I will contact them to ask them to please consider correcting what I see as a significant error. Endorsement are to a large degree about getting the best Democrats elected.
After the shocking election of Trump, I read Man Without a Face about how Trump destroyed democracy in Russia and Facts and Fears, by James Clapper that quantified the Russian interferecnce in our election.
Position Papers
Excerpts from the California Democratic Party (CDP) Platform Authored by Mike Bullock
These excerpts are from the CDP Platform.
It is not easy for an individual to amend the CDP Platform. It usually starts by getting a resolution adopted by a club and/or, even better, by one's Central Committee. In my case, that is of course the San Diego Democratic Party Central Committee. Next, a proposal is submitted to the CDP Platform Committee, based on a resolution. The CDP Platform Committee may then contact the person submitting the proposed change. Usually I was contacted by a CDP Platform Committee member who has expertise in the topic of my proposed changes. This usually starts a process of email and/or phone discussions about the topic. I was able to improve the Platform, which is changed in even-numbered years, from 2010 to 2020.
I need to do more. I need to get legislatation based on these adopted statements. Please help me get re-elected. Please call me at 760-754-8025 with comments or questions. What else needs to be done?

· Work to ensure that all graduating high school students are climate literate, including knowing
o reasons for anthropogenic climate change and its potential for harm;
o the difference between climate stabilization and destabilization;
o climate-stabilizing greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets;
§ the basis for those targets, and
§ the measures needed to achieve them; and
o the primary categories of emissions, including the most problematic category: cars and light-duty trucks;
· Demand a state plan specifying how cars and light-duty trucks can meet climate-stabilizing targets by defining enforceable measures to achieve necessary fleet efficiency and per-capita driving limits;
· Demand Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) driving-reduction targets, shown by science to support climate stabilization;
· Work for equitable and environmentally-sound road and parking operations; smart growth; “complete streets”; teaching bicycling traffic skills; and improving transit, from local systems to high-speed rail;
· Support the design and implementation of a single, environmentally-sound technology system that will collect and distribute fees for the use of roads, parking, and transit that is both economically fair and convenient and protects user privacy and the interests of low-income users;

· Work to ensure that freeway expansion projects are subordinate to more sustainable alternatives that will result in more jobs and growth.
From the 2016 & 2018 Platform (Dividend Account Parking)
· Work for shared, convenient, and value-priced parking, operated with a system that provides earnings to those paying higher costs or receiving a reduced wage, due to the cost of providing the parking.

Balancing personal, professional, and political obligations is never easy, but it is doable. Last year when I was fully immersed in local politics, I was working a fulltime job as well as a parttime caregiver for my 103-year-old grandmother who was on hospice. While balancing all of that was difficult, it was possible by knowing my limits and planning ahead. With that being said, I am 110% dedicated to serving as a Central Committee member and will devote whatever time and energy is required of me to advance progressive policy.
Housing/homelessness and the environment are two local-level issues that our county party is currently facing. I believe the best way to address these issues is by advocating for policies like Housing for All and the Green New Deal.
Before I answer this, I want to say that I've been a liberal since before I could vote and I've been a Democrat since I was old enough to vote. With that being said, I believe Bernie Sanders is an ideal Democrat despite being the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history. Senator Sanders' policies are similar to that of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, whose New Deal promoted the “golden age” of American labor. While I know some may disagree with my opinion due to Senator Sanders formerly being an Independent, I like to remind them "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

Central Committee decides which candidates and ballot measures will get the endorsement of our party (and have access to party resources)! Because of this, one of the best ways to help progressive candidates who are seeking office is to make sure their Central Committee members share the same values.

Biography
I was born in Chicago of an Irish-Scotch mother and a Russian-Polish Jewish father. Quite a mixed bag. However, both were political activists and members of the American Socialist Party, thus making me a legitimate “red diaper baby”. It was not until I was about nine or ten years old, that I realized not everyone used their living room to store “picket signs.” My activist upbringing was probably responsible for my tendency to become a discipline problem in elementary school. In fact, it was suggested to my parents that they find an alternative educational venue for me. They sure did! I spent the third and fourth grade with the good nuns at “Lady Help a Christian” Catholic school--probably the only time in my life when I was not being talkative and disruptive. My father retired from the Chicago School system and we moved to California, settling in the bay area. After my graduation from High School in Redwood City, I attended Stanford University. Upon my graduation in 1962, I moved to Oceanside where I was offered my first, and as it turned out my only, teaching position at Oceanside High School where I taught Civics, and developed an award winning community involvement curriculum in 1972. From 1984 to 2002 I served as the library media specialist and Debate Coach. Since my retirement I have devoted my time to a part time job at the Dove Library and numerous political and social volunteering. As a cancer survivor I work closely with local support groups to mentor newly diagnosed cancer patients. For over 60 years I have been a political activist for social justice. From advocating for peace, to fighting racism, to immigrant rights, to ending the judicial injustice of police brutality that has claimed so many young lives in our County , to labor. I walked my first picket line with my activist father when I was 9 years old and most recently walked with the Unite Here hotel workers last year when they were striking against the Westgate Hotel in San Diego. My desire to be CCmember is quite simple. I would like to challenge the present party’s commitment to party cronyism. It is time to take back the party of FDR that committed itself to bettering the human condition

Questions & Answers
Questions from The League of Women Voters San Diego (LWVSD) and the League of Women Voters of North County San Diego (LWVNCSD) (3)
I think our most significant challenge is engaging voters on issues impacting their lives, and especially on local issues in their community. We certainly need to defeat Trump in 2020, but we need to think beyond that if the party is to succeed in the long run.
As the saying goes, all politics is local. Most of the time, if you speak with someone they will know the president, but not city council members or the water board.
The question is: how do we change this?
We need to be representing local voices and engage voters on the issues impacting their everyday lives, and that's one of the reasons I’m running for central committee: to be a voice for the people in this district, to bring a fresh perspective to the Central Committee, and to represent people who are overlooked.
I would start by going to community groups and attending their meetings. I think this creates the opportunity to have useful conversations about community successes and concerns. I would strive to keep community members updated on what is happening on the central committee, which is something many people may not be aware of. Having this conversation would help lay the foundation for higher engagement and success.

I have spent my life working to help people. First, I was a health care professional then I became a teacher of community college students pursuing health care professions and finally, I became a teacher of students with severe disabilities in high school. I received the appropriate master’s degrees to enable me to teach in the health professions and in Special Education.
Activism has always been part of who I am. During my working years, I worked with professional organizations for the improvement of the professions such as licensing for Respiratory Care Practitioners; I was active in the unions representing me in the teaching fields including the AFT/CFT and CTA; and finally, I supported candidates and the California Democratic Party as a delegate. Upon retiring with 28 years of fulltime teaching service in the California Public Schools, I increased my activism by becoming an active member of the Democratic Club of Carlsbad Oceanside and a lead for Obama’s Organizing for Action. I am currently the President of the Democratic Club of Carlsbad Oceanside. I have served as an Associate (non-voting) member of the San Diego County Democratic Central Committee for the past year because of my position as President of a chartered Democratic club.

As a lifelong Democrat, I have always supported the tenets of the Democratic Party. Climate change is an existential threat requiring big changes in the way we live and a commitment by everyone to do their part. Health care is a human right that must be available to everyone at no or low cost. Medicare for all is a good idea. Education is also a right of all Americans who want it and it should be easily accessible and affordable. Economic inequality including the inequality of tax burdens threatens to destroy what we know as the American way of life. This must be addressed immediately! Immigrants, people of all religions, women, people of all gender identities, etc. are to be respected and valued the same as anyone else. It is the right of all Americans to practice their religion or have no religion without any interference from others. A woman has a right to choose her own reproductive health care. Laws regarding immigration must be fair, without bias and enforced equally.
I support the Democratic Party because it is the party that most closely represents my views. While there are improvements that should be made, I am committed to working with my fellow Democrats to ensure that these are done. Elected officials are responsible to represent their constituents. If I am elected to the Democratic Central Committee, I will reach out to my constituents for their input and represent them accordingly. All views should be respected, and we should focus on what we can agree on. Lastly, the infusion of new ideas and new people are important to keep the party vibrant and current.

Biography
I was born into a working class family and raised in a suburb just outside of Chicago on the city’s South Side. I attended Illinois State University where I received my Degree in Political Science and was elected to lead the Model Illinois Government organization, an organization of nearly 20 colleges and 300 students. Later, I would go on to obtain his Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Organizational Development from National University.
I moved to San Diego in 2011 where my passions for community involvement and change were reignited. In 2012 I began working to help re-elect President Obama and help elect Scott Peters to 52nd Congressional District. In 2013 I worked as a Volunteer Coordinator for David Alvarez during his bid for Mayor of San Diego. Later that year I was accepted into a Fellowship with The San Diego LGBT Community Center and their Young Professional Counsel, which is designed to educate and engage future community leaders in the LGBTQ community and the allies that support them.
More recently I have been an active member with the San Diego Young Democrats, North County Young Democrats, Vista Democratic Club, Rancho Santa Fe Democratic Club, Escondido Young Democratic Club, and the Democratic Club of Carlsbad and Oceanside. In 2018 I worked to get voters engaged for the down ballot races by knocking on doors to help educate citizens about those issues and to help elect Governor Newsom. In 2019 I took part in the Vista Leadership Academy, where I received an up close look at how the city functions, while gaining experience on the inner working of our communities.
My goal on the Democratic Party Central Committee would be to strengthen the base of the Democratic Party through strong voter engagement, reaching out to the forgotten members of our communities, and engaging our youth at the high school level.
I understand that we need to elect leaders that want to create legitimate transit options, instead of building on top of our already congested roads and highways. Leaders that are willing create programs that will that will address real issues that help and house our homeless population. Individuals that will work with the county, state, and federal government to find affordable and free healthcare options for all of our citizens, especially those who can’t afford insurance.
I also believe in finding green energy solutions so that we can combat climate change and protect our communities, coastline, natural resources and state parks, for all of our future generations.
Most importantly, I want to provide a seat for everyone at our table, so that we can all prosper here in the 76th Assembly District and beyond.
I want to fight for working class people, because I come from a working class family.

I genuinely would not be running for this position if I were not willing to dedicate the necessary time to ensure its success. I am 100% committed to balancing my personal and professional duties to create the necessary amount of time to the Central Committee and the members of this district.
There are many issues that we will face as a party over the next decade, but I believe the largest issue that faces the Democratic Party is the changing dynamic of those that inhabit it. We have a diverse group of citizens that are separated by age, culture, class, and values, that are all fighting for a litany of issues that include Health Care, Citizenship, Climate Change, Social Security, Housing, Equal Rights and Wage Equality. We need to focus on the end goal and work together to understand, that while our methods may differ, we all want the same end result.
We need to make our citizens voices feel valued, even if they didn't vote in the last election. I will work to bridge that gap by inviting everyone to our table and maintaining an open dialogue, while working together to find our common ground, so that we can accomplish all of the goals that we set out to achieve.
I have always admired the work that President Kennedy accomplished during his time in office. When you look past his personal flaws, and judge the body of his work, from his time in the service, the 60's booming economy, the manner in which political campaigns operate, the establishment of the Peace Corps, his handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and his work on Civil Rights and Equal Rights, he paved the way for a generation of progressives that would not be defined by the ideology of the past.
I think it is very similar to what we are seeing today with the rise of a more progressive movement within the Democratic Party and it should lend itself to the idea, that despite the pushback, we must never give up and we must keep pushing to create changes that will help benefit all Americans, even if it is far more challenging that we had hoped it would be.

The party's challenge to acknowledge the reality of the working class community's needs into effective policies influenced by big money donors is one of the biggest challeges preventing us from expanding are voter base. We need to endorse candidates and policies that raise our standards for harworking families. I won't be elected because an elected official endorsed me to maintain an agenda to protect their donor base. I don't want a job in politics. I want my neighbors to afford housing and I want my friends with cancer to never see a healthcare bill AGAIN regardless of thier social class. I will only be that voice and vote in that manner as a Central Commitee member. That's why I'm here.
Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez and Bernie Sanders. No matter how a person feels about their personality, both have been a consistent voice for working class values, enviroment and anti- war in the party. My second is Grace Jones, a woman who challeged identity perceptions of beauty and strength. Imagine a party with more outliers than insiders.

I have been serving in this elected role since 2016. Central Committee members are required to attend one monthly Central Committee meeting and one monthly area Caucus meeting. I have made the majority of these meetings since 2016, and out of respect to the Chair of the Party and our other members, I do my best to stay through completion of these meetings, which can sometimes run 4+ hours.
CA-Rep, Mike Levin (49) maintains high level engagement with his district-utilizing Town Hall meetings and House Parties as outreach methods-keeping members of our community informed and engaged.

Democrats for Peace in the Middle East Statement in Response to Trump Accusing Jewish Americans of “Disloyalty”
Presented at San Diego Democratic Central Committee-August 20, 2019
San Diego, California: Tonight, Sheri J. Sachs, President and Larry Kornit, Vice-President of Democrats for Peace in the Middle East presented the following statement to the San Diego Democratic Central Committee.
Statement: President Trump’s statement, “I think Jewish people that vote for a Democrat—I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty”, is an unconscionable attack on the Jewish community and deeply divisive to Americans everywhere. For generations Jews have been accused by fascists and dictators of disloyalty, so it is not surprising that a President who praises the fascists and dictators of the world uses this same language in an attempt to divide our nation.
Democrats for Peace in the Middle East refuses to remain silent when any representative of the United States utilizes the Jewish community as political pawns. We will stand strong and united against hate speech and incitement. Speaking up against tyranny isn’t ‘disloyal’, it is as American as apple pie. President Trump’s language is packaged in a way that is recognizable to Jewish Americans as cultural violence which reinforces hostility against the Jewish community from all sides of the political spectrum. Our shared morals and values will unite us all and propel us to victory in November 2020 when we finally bring an end to this nightmare in our nation’s history.
Democrats for Peace in the Middle East was founded because of the undeniable growth of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in America. We advocate for peace and recognition of the Israeli and Palestine communities, we fight against anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and all forms of bigotry, and we defend religious tolerance and protect human, civil and labor rights. We ask all of us here tonight to consider our role in the type of society and Democratic Party we want to live and work in today, and gift to future generations. We are asking us to be mindful of our actions and stand together against all forms of anti-Semitism.
About: Mission Statement: Democrats for Peace in the Middle East will work to support durable peace, justice and equality for Israelis and Palestinians, while promoting a platform centered around Israel’s future as a secure and democratic Jewish state, and the Jewish value of "Tikkun Olam"-repair of the world.
My Top 3 Priorities
- Increase voter turnout through voter engagement including an emphasis on engaging youth and low propensity voters
- Develop and implement a Central Committee Strategic Plan which will include, but is not limited to, grooming candidates 2-4 years prior to running for office

I currently volunteer with several organizations with an emphasis on youth engagement. I will use my current volunteer activities to share with the central committee ways to expand the party to youth, veterans and diverse communities. I expect a minimum of 15-20 hours a week dedication to party growth activities.
One of the most significant challenges we face as a party is answering and implementing the question: How do we create a unified party with leadership reflective of the communities that make up the party?
As an African American male who grew up in the South, served in the military, and migrated to Southern California for my career in the nuclear energy field, the one political figure that showed me what the Democratic Party stands for was President Barack Obama. I watched as he and his wife showed America what integrity and grace look like from a leader.
What he had to endure showed me what was possible for the future of our party and made me proud to be a Democrat.
President Obama put together a program which provided healthcare for millions who did not have it, even in states with primarily Democratic leadership. Democrats expanded protections for preexisting conditions. President Obama utilized diplomacy to curb Iran's nuclear aspirations while Republicans ignored facts and tried to take our healthcare.
President Obama's presidency inspired me to work toward engaging young people to see and realize their potential.

Biography
I'm a 23-year-old college student, youth organizer, and a proud gay man. I was born to active-duty military parents, a Marine father and an Airman mother, and grew up right here in North County. I moved around a lot being a military brat, but my family moved back to Camp Pendleton in 2008 and finally settled down in Oceanside. I went on to graduate from Vista High School in 2015 and enrolled at MiraCosta College in 2016 to study East Asian Studies.
It was at MiraCosta that I started to get involved in politics and realized that young people could actually make a difference. I founded the Democrats of MiraCosta College and started interning and volunteering for our local Democratic candidates. Since then, I've turned youth organizing into my full time passion and was elected South State Regional Director for the California Young Democrats and President of the North County Young Democrats. I'm proud of the work I've accomplished these past couple years mentoring and engaging young people, including founding Democratic clubs at six colleges and four high schools.

If elected to Central Committee, my responsibilities would overlap with the youth organizing work I'm already doing. I would continue to devote that same time and energy to building a bigger and better San Diego County Democratic Party.
Once we defeat Trump in November, our Party has to keep up the same level of voter enthusiasm, engagement, and organizing that we have seen over the past four years. In the past, those efforts would drop off after an election - leading to communities and constituencies feeling taken advantage of or ignored. The San Diego County Democratic Party of the future can't keep playing by that same old rulebook. We have to rethink politics and start putting in the hard work every day to build relationships, educate voters, and develop organizations and networks. All of those efforts are going to be critical if we want to remain relevant as a party and not lose entire generations of voters. That's why I have devoted the past four years of my life mentoring young voters and expanding our Democratic Party to college and high school campuses all over San Diego.
This is probably my favourite question I've been asked on this campaign so far.
Your school years tend to be some of the worst in your life and that's especially true when you're LGBTQ+. Like a lot of young gay kids, I tried to change myself and make myself less "feminine". Five years later, I've learned to accept myself though and I've realised just how much I love my femininity and how much I admire the women around me. It's no surprise then that my ideas of what our Party should be like, and what qualities make a good leader, are shaped by the strong women who raised me and mentored me.
I believe that the Democratic Party is the party of the people and that our job as Democrats is to fight for compassion, equity, and progress every single day. That's why I look to Senator Elizabeth Warren, future Congressmember Sara Jacobs, and Vista City Councilmember Corinna Contreras for what it means to be a Democrat. All three of them pour their heart and souls into making other people's lives better and always put people over profit. They lead with compassion and grace even when faced with injustice or setback. And no matter what challenges they come up against, they get back up and keep fighting for us. Their politics are the politics of kindness, of hope, and of unashamed femininity.
If elected, that is the compassionate Democratic Party and bright future I want to build together with you.

Looking back on my life, I'm incredibly grateful to have had the role models and influences I did. My father taught me the importance of serving others and the duty we have to our country. My mother taught me the importance of humility, forgiveness, and compassion. Those values were pretty sorely tested though growing up as a young, autistic, gay boy in a working-class community. I saw more injustice and cruelty at the hands of ignorant people and politicians than any kid should ever have to see. I could have walked away from all of that bitter and disillusioned. Instead I became even more determined to live by the values my parents taught me and the teachings of my Jain faith.
It's why I became a Democrat when I turned 18.
It's why I put compassion at the heart of my political philosophy.
And it's why I fight for equity, justice and progress every day.
