Shahid embodies San Francisco’s values, and has actively represented them in both San Francisco and Washington as a legal advocate, national non-profit leader, grassroots organizer, and movement musician. Through his work building movements for peace, immigrant rights, black lives, and the Occupy movement, Shahid dedicated his career to public service long before running for public office.

An early advocate for marriage equality for same-sex couples and a prolific organizer in the movement to end warrantless surveillance, Shahid most recently built a national grassroots network for the Electronic Frontier Foundation as the organization’s Director of Grassroots Advocacy. He has been building social movements and speaking truth to power for two decades, and graduated from Stanford Law School in 2003.

In addition to LGBTQ rights, privacy, and the right to encryption, Shahid’s work has advanced immigrant rights, campaign finance reform, government transparency, international human rights, and police accountability. His writing has explored issues from the right-wing attack on reproductive freedom to the erosion of voting rights, and from effective counter-terrorism strategies to counter-cultural activism leveraging art & culture.

I am running for office because I can’t turn a blind eye to corporate predation marginalizing the future.

San Francisco needs a voice in Washington aligned with our city’s proudly visionary values. My work and my identity each uniquely qualify me to serve in that capacity. I have actively practiced solidarity with communities on the frontline of patriarchy and U.S. imperialism—both abroad and here in the U.S.—for decades.

I’m poised to help the left wing of Congress both by adding a vote to the Progressive Caucus and the ranks of its bolder members of color, and also by adding depth in constitutional law, civil liberties, tech regulation, and foreign policy.

My political philosophy is reflected by the various networks and movements with whom I’ve worked for decades, including the movements for civil liberties, police accountability, climate justice, immigrant rights, and a peaceful and just foreign policy placing human rights before corporate resource extraction.

I'm committed to establishing the recognition of basic human needs—including healthcare, housing and food—as human rights. I'm also committed to defending our democracy, both by challenging executive secrecy and mass surveillance, and also by defending voting rights and judicial independence in the face of their longstanding erosion.

John Dennis was born in Jersey City, growing up in one of that town's toughest public housing projects.

His father was a longshoreman and mother a city hall clerk and Democrat Committeewoman. He put himself through Fordham University, where he was elected student body president.

John graduated in 1985 with a degree in business administration with concentrations in Finance and Marketing.

After college, John became the second employee and an eventual partner in Humanscale - one of the world's top 10 design firms, specializing in office furniture.

John worked in tech during the Dotcom era. He has been a real estate developer for 20 years.

John is currently the Chairman of the San Francisco Republican Party, where he has served since 2008. He has been a delegate to the CAGOP since 2010.

John has been a member of the Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) since 2010 where he has held various leadership positions. He currently serves as Vice Chairman on the National Board of the RLC.

He is endorsed by U.S. Senator Rand Paul, Congressman Tom McClintock and Congressman Thomas Massie. California Republican National Committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon is a supporter.

John, his wife Heather, and their daughter Devan live in their dog Augie’s house in the Pacific Heights neighborhood. John has been a San Francisco resident for nearly 30 years.

I believe individual liberty is the highest political value. Government's role is to protect your liberties. If government expands past it's defined role it always does so at the expense of freedoms.

Washington has expanded beyond its originally defined powers. We must roll back the loss of privacy, strengthen our civil liberties, free up American businesses and end foreign wars.

Agatha Bacelar is an engineer and documentary filmmaker based in San Francisco. She earned her experience in filmmaking and political advocacy during her tenure at the social justice advocacy organization Emerson Collective.  She has built her platform on enhancing representative democracy, reducing mass gun violence, addressing climate change, the provision of a Universal Basic Income and universal healthcare and eliminating dark money from politics.

Ms. Bacelar was born in Brazil and moved to the United States as a child. She speaks four languages and brings a diverse, globally-oriented mindset in her service to California’s 12th Congressional District. Agatha is the first Latina Democrat to run for this seat. If she were to advance to the general election via California’s jungle primary process, she will come to the job ready to embrace the realities of a rapidly-shifting,  globalizing and connected world.

Agatha has lived and worked on four different continents in some of the most relevant centers of global geopolitical affairs: Brazil in South America, the U.K. and Germany in Europe, Kenya in Africa, China and India in Asia, and, of course, the United States and Mexico here in North America. She is a founding member of Democracy Earth, a non-profit focused on using technology to increase political participation and representation and a graduate of Stanford University, where she received a degree in Engineering with minors in anthropology and social justice. With less than ten percent of Congressional  representatives with a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) training, Agatha brings a critical science-based understanding to the crises we currently face regarding climate, and the  impact of technology on our democracy and our lives.

In San Francisco, 41% of the registered voters are millennials. That’s a plurality of voters who are sick of unaffordable housing, drowning in student debt, unaffordable healthcare, and living with the daily realities of climate change and mass gun violence. Our city is the emblem of both technological innovation and the wealth disparity capital of the world.  These problems are all problems of representation. A millennial herself, Agatha is the ideal choice to represent the constituents of this district - people whose voices have been underrepresented and ignored for years in favor of the corporate interests. It’s a new era we’re living in, and it’s time for new leadership.

Our planet is dying from climate change. Each year brings a new record for debt and wealth inequality. More of us are dying from suicide and overdoses than ever before. And we can’t do anything about it because most of our political leaders are ruled by corporate money. I've spent my career working with the people and in the places where justice is most urgently needed. From locked facilities like juvenile camps and immigrant detention, in classrooms, and with our unbanked and undocumented communities.  I'm running because I am haunted by what I've seen. We’ve been in a long slumber of indifference to the poor and vulnerable. I’m running because challenging the democratic party and the status quo is a survival imperative for this city, for all  humanity, and for our ailing planet. 

I am dedicated to the vital issues of climate change and the environment, housing and homelessness, economic disparity, and ensuring the protection of human rights here and globally. Attention to these issues also means a foreign policy ending the United States’ involvement in endless wars and shattering denial that global stability, climate change, and human rights issues do not have inevitable consequences back here. Our global system of economic extraction, fear, violence, and suffering must end. That means confronting political corruption and inaction, and turning over a leaf to new political leaders that adequately represent their constituents. It will take new leadership - leadership that includes the voices of the historically underrepresented, especially the young -  to transform our paralyzed political system into a more vibrant, participatory, and representative democracy.
