Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de League of Women Voters of California (3)

What financing method(s) would you support to repair or improve roads, rails, ports, airports, the electrical grid, and other infrastructure in the U.S.?
Respuesta de Eric Swalwell:

Our public infrastructure is the backbone of our economy and our daily lives, and is in desperate need of upgrade. Building new roads, rail, ports and airports and adavncing renewable energy production would create millions of jobs; this requires vision and strong, committed public investment, not corner-cutting and privatization. Let's spend more on the things that benefit us all, and less on preparing for war or tax giveaways to corporations and the very richest Americans.

What programs or legislation, if any, would you support to help Americans of all ages to secure affordable health care?
Respuesta de Eric Swalwell:

If you're sick, you should be seen, and if you're seen you shouldn't go broke. I support coverage for all - Medicare for any American who wants it, a public option operating alongside and competing with private insurance plans in order to drive prices down for everyone.

Describe an immigration policy that you would support if presented to the House of Representatives.
Respuesta de Eric Swalwell:

The issue of immigration needs leadership, not showmanship. Our immigration system is fundamentally broken and needs fundamental reform so that it represents America's interest while treating immigrants with dignity and justice. Trump's promise to build a wall all the way along the border is too costly, ineffective, and absurd; caging children is immoral and inhuman. We must provide a road map to legalized status and citizenship for undocumented workers, reduce backlogs and let families be reunited, let undocumented kids brought here years ago have the same opportunities as everyone else, and let businesses attract and retain workers from abroad when domestic talent is scarce. I support more funding to train, hire and retain border personnel, deploy the best technology at ports of entry, and provide additional immigration court resources to give asylum seekers the fair justice they deserve. We should focus our deportation efforts on national security threats, violent criminals, and repeat criminal offenders. And we must convene leaders from Mexico and South American countiries to support working with Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, as well as any relevant nongovernmental organizations, to see how we can alleviate the suffering that's driving people to seek asylum in the United States. If that requires increased foreign aid, then that's an investment we should make.
