Pablo Mendiolea, formerly Pablo Quintero, was born to a working class, immigrant family in Anaheim, CA. His parents came to this country from Mexico for the American dream. His father was a grocery clerk at a Lucky Store and a member of the UFCW Local 324. His mother a factory worker at Kraft Lunchables, and a member of Teamsters Local 952. They put all their focus in giving their children the best life possible despite their very low income. Pablo has a sister, Marcy, who is one year younger, and a brother, Luis (L.A.), who is 9 years younger. When Pablo was three his parents bought the house that they would all live in for the next 17 years.

Pablo attended the local public schools in Anaheim: Patrick Henry Elementary School, Brookhurst Jr High, Loara High School, and Savanna High School. He excelled in his academics and became heavily involved with community service. His service throughout his teenage years earned him recognition such as 2009 Bank of America Student Leader and by Congressman Lorretta Sanchez as Orange County’s Lions Club Teen of the Year.

He graduated Savanna High School in 2009 and attended UCLA where he majored in Economics. He then began working at a Real Estate Investment Trust, as an Associate. After two years, he left for Mexico City to start a start-up called Oztomeca. The start-up aimed in providing online services to small manufacturers in Latin America. He created relationships with various embassies, the Mexican Ministry of Economy, and other government agencies to help his cause.

During his time in Mexico, Pablo suffered a car accident that almost took his life. His experience helped him realize that he only had one life to make a difference, and it was that epiphany that pushed Pablo to re-focus on the community he loved to serve when he was a student.

Unfortunately, due to lack of funding, Oztomeca shut down in 2016. Pablo was employed by the developer Hines, and shortly afterward he moved back to California to work as a Acquisitions Manager for a local Real Estate Investment Management Company. He quickly joined the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and is currently a mentor to a wonderful 12-year-old boy in Santa Ana.

In 2018 Pablo married his husband, Diego, whom he met while living in Mexico City. Pablo underwent the process of sponsoring his husband a visa, and they now live in Santa Ana, CA. Pablo is very close with his parents and his siblings. As a family they all stick together.

Having been raised in district 46, I have witnessed how our communities have deteriorated. Families are financially struggling in our district and affordability has hit a new low all while our economy and productivity has grown to record highs. Where has all that wealth gone? It has gone to the top 1% and corporations who have used it for stock buybacks and executive pay. My father in 1994 was able to purchase the home I was raised in with a grocery clerks wage. It now takes a six-figure salary to buy that same house. Millennials and Gen Zers are struggling to have the same opportunities their parents had. Every generation in the U.S. has progressed forward economically, and for the first time we are moving back. Don’t we want the best for our children and future generations? I am tired of seeing our politicians focus on issues that are not as important as our family’s financial well-being. If our current representative won’t stand up for our people, then I will. It's time to prioritize! Here are some of my stances on issues:

Economy- We must stop all trickle-down economic policies. Giving tax breaks to corporations and the top 1% does not benefit those in the middle and bottom. We the people are the economy, and as such a more efficient way of executing expansive fiscal policy is by investing money into small local businesses and the middle class.

Tax System- The top 1% owns almost 50% of all the wealth in America. The top 0.1% owns more than the bottom 90% of America. It is only fair that they pay more taxes. Because of tax loopholes, CEO’s many times pay a lower tax rate than their employees. Tax loopholes should be capped to where the middle class may still benefit from them, but the top 1% will not be able to abuse.

Worker Protection- It is astonishing that being in the 21st century, our countries workers are still not granted basic rights and protections afforded in many other countries. If you are a full-time worker, you should not have to live in poverty.

Education- We are one of the only industrialized nations without a free public higher-education system. Our higher-education system is one of the most expensive in the world and is more expensive than it’s ever been. As such, student debt has skyrocketed with no cool-down in sight; meanwhile, our government profits from all these student loans.

Health Care- Everyone in our country should have access to healthcare. I will fight to reform our system so that no more lives are lost or destroyed due to the high cost of health care. Not only do we have one of the highest health care costs but our system ranks below most developed nations; on par with many third world countries.

Immigration- I support securing our borders for the protection of our communities. However, our country is a melting pot of generations of immigrants that have all made immeasurable contributions to our country which is why we repair our broken immigration system. I personally witnesses how unfair and broken the legal immigration process is when I sponsored my husband for his green card, and when my grandmother was never allowed to visit my mother despite her disability.

Senior Citizens- We must take care of the needs of our senior citizens who currently face many uncertainties. I will fight to make sure that every senior citizen in our district can live a much-deserved dignified life.

Gun Safety- It is sad to know that Shootings are now the 3rd leading cause of death for children in our country. We must act now to put common sense safe measures, and to work towards getting to the root of the problem.

Above all, I am here to serve my people. I vow to always listen to all my constituents regardless of political affiliation. Together will make our country a better place for ourselves, our families, and the generations to come. 

I grew up in a working class neighborhood on the west side of Anaheim and while my mom, a single mother, drove a bus for the county almost 12 hours a day, my grandparents helped raise me until my teenage years. Unfortunately in the last few years, my grandmother’s condition has been deteriorating so much that she can’t walk, cook for herself, clean herself or get in or out of bed without a manual lift. The care that she needs isn’t very intensive, but it means I always have to be there to get her up, change her, get her from bed to a wheelchair and repeat it all over at night…just in reverse. To save money, we have decided to do virtually all of the care ourselves. I know the struggle of people in my position and of the people they care for, having to survive on less and less resources.

I have a strong belief that the working people of this country have gotten screwed by multinational corporations and the ultra rich. Their corrupting influence through legalized bribery has made it that most of the voters don't get the things they need from government and I am running for Congress to reverse this trend. I am running on issues like medicare4all, free public college, the green new deal, getting money out of politics, $15 minimum wage, ending all the wars, infrastructure spending, cannabis legalization, immigration reform, net neutrality, etc. These policies will ensure that working people have the ability to live a good life and not have to work themselves to death at two/three jobs just to barely make ends meet. The working people are the ones who need representation in Washington and I will be their unbought and uncorrupted champion in the House of Representatives.
