Do you support the use of a federal carbon tax on the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by the use of fossil fuels (such as coal, oil and natural gas) as a means to both slow climate change and to reduce the deficit?  Why or why not?
Answer from Paul Merritt:

Our Federal govt. has failed to try programs to make clean COAL a mandate and

innovation of such possibilites.

Move nuke waste away from our population centers

LOWER gas tax based on consumer conservation useage.

Climate change is REAL and other factors also contribute to this dire situation [eg. animal waste]

What is your stand on gun control laws at the federal level?  Please explain the reasoning behind your position. 
Answer from Paul Merritt:

CITIZENS have the RIGHT to bear arms

Felons or mental persons must have very very strong jail penalties for un-authorized possession of guns.

We punish the good and are weak on jail time for the bad.

 

Is the Trans Pacific Partnership Trade Agreement good for California?  Would you vote to support it?  Please explain why or why not.
Answer from Paul Merritt:

GOOD for ports and truckers.  

Paul Merritt for Senate has trouble with California job loss provisions to enhance foreign government[s].

At the federal level, should recreational marijuana be legalized? Why or why not?
Answer from Paul Merritt:

This is a State[s] Rights issue. REPEAL Federal small quantities use laws.

The Federal Government plays a part in California water allocation and use through a variety of laws.  What, if any, legislation would you support in an effort to handle water shortages caused by the current and any future drought?
Answer from Paul Merritt:

Make water distribution fair to ALL cities and agriculture businesses

ALLOW for water desalinization / re cycle program/ drought tolerent landscaping rebates

Should immigration laws be changed?  What changes would you support?  Please explain why. 
Answer from Paul Merritt:

YES, I SUPPORT A STONG FENCE and controls on ALL borders - even Oceans/ Canada

However, persons who dont want to be U.S. CITIZENS and desire to work in the U.S. should have a permit system in the USA to 

process their current issues.  No criminals or mental defectives allowed entry to our U.S.A

No repeat amnesty programs that have proven immigrant failure to our lawful system.

End the anchor baby Passports by legislation per the Constitution.
