Calaveras County has been my home for over 38 years. I chose a career at your Sheriff’s Office 15 years ago. I have worked various positions within the department including my current position as your Sheriff. I fully understand the needs of our community and the Sheriff’s Office.

As your Sheriff, I have worked hard to foster better programs and relationships with our schools, senior citizens, ranchers and our communities.

I know that to have safe communities and effective policing, it requires hard work and trust through commitment and community partnerships. 

Some departmental projects that I have expanded upon are drug enforcement, K9, bike, academy, inmate worker and resident deputy programs. I have been effective at adding additional deputies/correctional officers to the office to ensure crimes are responded to for a safer community. I have worked solely for this department to earn that trust from you.

As your Sheriff, I pledge to implement the values of integrity, accountability, and honesty. I am on your side.

I will be honored to continue as your Sheriff, I respectfully request your vote to continue to serve this community with the dedication I have for it.

I have continuously lived in Calaveras County since 1989 and I have been a professional peace officer for more than 28 years.  I graduated from Napa Valley College in 1985 with 3, two year degrees in law enforcement, then put myself through the police academy.  

I worked for the U. S. Border Patrol at the Chula Vista Station in San Diego, then moved to Calaveras County, where I was hired by the Sheriff's Office.  I have served as a deputy sheriff for Calaveras County from 1990 through 2002; I served Calaveras County as a patrol deputy, a field training officer, a search and rescue manager, a detective, a narcotics investigator, a resident deputy and a hostage negotiator.  In 1993, I was shot in the line of duty and awarded the Medal of Valor for my professionalism during the incident. 

I then served as a deputy sheriff for Amador County, being assigned to patrol, detectives and narcotics.  I was certified by the Peace Officers Standards and Commission as an instructor in narcotics and taught in a police academy.  In 2008, I went to work for the Amador District Attorney’s Office – where I am still employed. I routinely assist and provide guidance to other law enforcement agencies in complex, criminal investigations.  In 2014, I received statewide recognition for a homicide investigation that included federal partners and international ties.

My broad experience and expertise has fostered personal interactions with law enforcement professionals throughout California – and beyond. These connections will help me to bring state-of-the-art resources to our Sheriff’s Office.  My expertise and experience is not limited to just Calaveras County.  

I am running for Sheriff with the promise to make public safety the top priority, with emphasis on providing for crime victims, implementing Community Oriented/Problem Oriented Policing philosophies, providing operational and fiscal transparency, and improving community relationships and communications.  

My wife and I have raised our children here.  I want a better Calaveras County like you.  Calaveras County needs professional, competent law enforcement leadership.
