I am a candidate for Los Rios College Trustee for one reason - to expand vocational training opportunities that lead to good jobs for Sacramento residents. I believe we have failed as a state and as a region to provide enough vocational training programs for residents after they leave high school. I want to work to improve how we move Folsom Lake College students into either careers or into four-year universities.

I attended Michigan State University and Wayne State University (WSU) , earning a BA from WSU.  After graduation, I joined ​the Peace Corps where I served in the Philippines in 1987 - 1988.  I worked in Washington DC after the Peace Corps where I worked on Capitol Hill as a congressional aide for six years while completing my graduate studies at the University of Maryland-UC. I am a veteran of the community college system with 20 years of experience.  Most recently, I’ve spent six years as a Vice President of Fiscal Services at Sierra and Delta Colleges. In addition, I spent 13 years at the community college Chancellor’s Office working as Finance Director and a budget analyst and roughly two years as the Governor’s fiscal & policy analyst for the community colleges at the Department of Finance.

I am a twenty-year resident of El Dorado County.  For the past fifteen years, I have taught economics and accounting at Folsom Lake College.  I operate my own fiduciary firm managing estates, trusts and probate administrations as a private or court appointed trustee.  Additionally, I provide interim CFO services with a focus on business cash generation, valuation and financial forecasting.

Growing up in rural Ohio, I learned from an early age that hard work, practicality and commitment to education results in opportunity and success.  This ethos guided me to Georgetown University where I received a degree in Economics and an MBA in Finance.  From there, I pursued a Wall street career starting at Goldman Sachs which transitioned to corporate finance at multiple Fortune 500 and 100 companies before venturing out with my own business.

I have served in multiple strategic board of director guidance roles.  I currently serve on the board for Folsom’s Hope as Treasurer and have served on the board for Linkage to Education and as Treasurer of the Sacramento Valley Bankruptcy Forum. 

These qualifications support my platform for the Los Rios Board of Trustee’s, which is to transform lagging 21st century standards by bringing more classes, less waiting lists, and greater investment in technology and infrastructure.  This will be achieved through better utilization of adjunct faculty and over enrollment consistent with capital infrastructure.  

Students first - No more cuts to classes and reinstate those classes that were eliminated in Fall 2020.

The Los Rios Community College District's initial response to the State budget shortfall was to eliminate classes.  Even before the budget shortfall, my classes were oversubscribed by more than 20%.  With less classes, more students are not able to advance their education.  This not only hurts those students, it hurts us as a community and our economy.  Comparing adjunct wages per class with the tuition fees per class, I can only conclude that full classes pay for themselves.  Eliminating classes, eliminates profits.  I currently consult as a turnaround finance professional.  I know how to analyze cost structures in real practical situations.  I have helped turn around several businesses that were expected to fail.  Moreover, I have taught cost accounting for ten years and microeconomics for five.  I have both the practical and the theoretical knowledge to guide Los Rios during this unprecedented time.
