  • Steady progress in fixing/replacing crumbling infrastructure.
  • Attain and sustain good financial standing through an innovative combination of new revenue sources, and efficiency in operating expense.

Experience

Biography

My name is Lew Farris.  I am an appointed member of the San Lorenzo Valley Water District Board of Directors, seeking re-election this coming November.   Growing up in Southern California, I enrolled at the University of California, Irvine, graduating with a degree in Chemistry in 1973.  I worked in the biotech industry for over 30+ years, specializing in design and manufacture of blood test kits.  The last 10+ years I have worked as an international regulatory consultant, auditing companies to ISO 9001 (general industry) and ISO13485 (medical devices).  I recently volunteered at the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s headquarters, for 2.5 years as a biostatistician in the Coroner’s department.  My work with the coroner’s office led me to receive the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County’s “Be the Difference Award” for 2018, in addition to receiving a California Legislature Certificate of Recognition, signed by Mark Stone.

I have been involved with SLVWD since 2014, first on the Citizen’s Action Committee, then on the Engineering Committee, and finally being appointed to the Board of Directors in 2019.  I enjoy giving back to the community, and look forward to assisting the District achieve excellence in the future.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

The San Lorenzo Valley is a slice of heaven right here on earth.  Many of the residents of SLV live here because of the natural beauty that surrounds us.  Maintaining our natural environment, while providing quality potable water, should be the prime directive of the water district.  I am fortunate to have been appointed to the Board of Directors of the San Lorenzo Valley Water District 18 months ago.  My two driving forces in making Board decisions is doing what is in the best interests of all ratepayers, and making decisions based on sound logic and science.  My college training in chemistry, coupled with my industry experience in high volume water purification, makes me uniquely qualified to provide guidance to SLVWD.  The two major threats to our future are crumbling infrastructure and financial sustainability.  If elected back to the Board, I will work tirelessly to build a 21st century water district.  I thank you for your consideration.
