Whittier’s on the Move! A Whittierite through and through, I was born and raised in Whittier, attended Whittier schools, married and raised a family in Whittier.  My wife and I just reopened an Uptown restaurant and I am a partner in a Whittier law firm, practicing California tax law and finance.

It’s been my honor to serve as your first directly elected Mayor for the last six years and I’d like your support to continue in that role.  Much has been accomplished even while under two years of Covid, and I’m proud with what our Council team achieved in that time. 

As a candidate for Mayor I made clear commitments regarding public safety, fiscal stability, The Nelles Youth Authority property, homelessness, Uptown, our library, and we made it happen!

Public safety is our first priority and I am pleased that the Whittier Police are at full complement and we just agreed to add four more officers to that complement with police body cameras coming next year.  We are also looking at beefing up our fire protection and emergency medical services through the LA Co Fire Dept.

Thanks to the people of Whittier and Measure W, your city is fiscally stable.  We generated a surplus that we will invest into parks, the hills, youth sports facilities for our kids and grandkids, the future.

As your Mayor and working it since 2003, converting the blighted state owned Nelles property into the beautiful Groves is well underway with new homes and great retail like In-n-Out, Stater Bros., Raising Cane’s all now open.

We are working hard every day on homelessness.  We are successfully taking care of our homeless families and children but homeless adults continue to be challenging. I led the call for a homelessness emergency declaration.  We found solutions for those camped in the parks. We now have a Navigation Center providing housing, jobs and services for those who want help.  But we also must be firm with those who don’t. And the County and State must step up to do their job with those who are mentally ill.

With Uptown property owners we created the Business District and the City is actively making parking/safety/streetscape improvements to our central core including a beautiful new parking pavilion. 

As your Mayor, I pulled together our partners from the State and County who brought back your tax dollars to rebuild our Central Library which will reopen in May. 

I need your vote to continue leading our city team for the next two years. Whittier’s on the Move!

I am a strong believer that the most responsive government is government that is closest to the people.  By definition, this means local government.  And this means nonpartisanship at the local government level.  There is no place for political party politicking or doctrinaire partisanship…what is best for the people of Whittier, what is in their best interests should be our only concern.  Whether the sewer is working, whether the police and fire response times are short, whether the streets are clean and well paved, all these know no political philosophy.  These are basic needs that every citizen has the right to expect from their local elected officials.
