In serving with the Criminal Justice Council, we coordinate with and support various rehabilitation programs and other community service organizations.

Economic recovery is Scotts Valley’s greatest challenge. Scotts Valley had declared a fiscal crisis in 2019. With strong community support, a sales tax measure was passed. Two weeks later the pandemic hit. The pandemic created an extreme hardship for local businesses, many may not recover. Then the CZU Lightning Complex fires caused even more damage to many businesses in the County. The evacuations caused business closures and added to the extreme burden. Community & Business recovery and re-building will be a long process.

Local government must continue to advocate for businesses, assist with marketing, rebuilding and recovery. We need to partner with business to assist them with resources available.

Another challenge is Public Safety.  Scotts Valley Police Officers are paid 25% less than other officers in the County. Due to this salary disparity, Scotts Valley PD has had the highest turnover in the history of the Department.  In March 2020, citizens of Scotts Valley voted to pass a sales tax measure with a priority of maintaining public safety. Then 2 weeks later the pandemic. As much as it was hoped to address the salary disparity, the financial impact of the pandemic shifted the priority to survival. Unless we can address this disparity soon, Scotts Valley PD will continue to lose quality police officers whose work has resulted in the City of Scotts Valley being named the 14^th safest city in California.

Recruitment of quality officers and city employees has become extremely challenging due to salary disparity. Scotts Valley cut City personnel following the 2008 great recession and currently has 25% fewer employees than in the early 90’s. The lack of staff is damaging the City’s ability to provide necessary services. There was much hope with the passage of the sales tax measure in March to replenish critical staff. With the pandemic and now the CZU Lightning fires we face challenges to maintain the quality of life citizens of Scotts Valley have enjoyed.

I am a Scotts Valley City Council Member having served two terms as mayor, running for re-election.

In August I celebrated 52 years working for the City of Scotts Valley. I started as a young high school student at City Hall taking the minutes for City Council meeting. I moved one year later to the police department and worked to become the first female Scotts Valley police officer, later a sergeant. I am proud to have served with Scotts Valley PD for a total 40 years until elected to City Council 12 years ago. All of my adult live has been serving Scotts Valley, this is my home.  I can't abandon the City in this difficult time.

The City of Scotts Valley had been working hard toward recovery from a fiscal crisis when COVID-19 hit. The effects of COVID have been devasting to our community as it has our neighbors. I have served with the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce as an Ambassador for the past 15 years, named Woman of the Year in 2011.  I know many of our business owners personally.  I have been working to support local businesses in every way possible and then the CZU Lightning fires struck causing even more devastation.

While serving on City Council, I’ve served with various commissions including, Senior Advocacy, Santa Margarita Groundwater Agency, Criminal Justice Council, METRO, AMBAG, Traffic Safety, LAFCo and others. I bring relationships, critical knowledge and experience valuable in working toward recovery.

I have a proven record of service, known to be very hardworking and committed to our community.  I am ready to continue that work when re-elected to Scotts Valley City Councii

I serve with the Santa Margarita Groundwater Sustainability Agency. We are planning for water sustainability for the future with SGMA. This is a topic discussed in current planning although logistically this doesn't have a direct effect on the Santa Margarita Groundwater area.
