Biography
If you care about something, you should leave it better than you found it. That lesson was instilled in Todd Gloria by his parents, and it motivates him to improve the San Diego region every day.
Since San Diegans sent him to City Hall as the San Diego City Councilmember for the Third District in 2008, Todd has made significant progress on the agenda his constituents set for him: he has continued the progress made by his City Council predecessor, Toni Atkins, by increasing affordable housing opportunities; Todd has expanded transportation options through new transit service and safer biking and walking infrastructure; and he helped stabilize the city budget through responsible funding decisions and sensible reforms.
Since 2008, thousands of affordable housing units were added to the City of San Diego. By implementing Todd's proposal in 2014, the city's homelessness services funds are used more effectively and moving more people off the streets and into the help they need. He is credited with paving the way for San Diego's first permanent homeless services center and housing facility, and continues to work with regional leaders to end homelessness as Chair of the Regional Continuum of Care Council.
Todd also understands the transportation challenges throughout San Diego County. As a board member of the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), Todd has helped secure funds to create more transportation options. He has worked to add Bus Rapid Transit throughout the region, invested in infrastructure for bicyclists and pedestrians, and increased trolley service.
