District 7 — U.S. House of Representatives

I’ve voted for improvements to Folsom Dam that increase storage capacity, so we can hold onto more water during drier periods. I’ve opposed the twin tunnels plan that would drain our local water sending it to Southern California and costing taxpayers up to $20 billion.  

Additionally, we must invest in innovative, long term solutions that improve water efficiency, repair aging infrastructure to prevent water loss, and secure water storage. That is why I support the proposed Sites Reservoir that would allow us to better capture the rain that does fall, keeping it available for use in the summer months when we need it most and taking pressure off Folsom Lake.

We need an immigration policy that keeps our country safe and makes our economy strong.

I support comprehensive immigration reform, which means actually addressing a broken immigration system, securing our borders, pushing our economy to grow, and ensuring accountability for new American immigrants. And we must also encourage the best and brightest who study in the U.S. to stay, work here, and bring their companies and jobs here.

But Washington gridlock has continually gotten in the way of meaningful progress. Now more than ever, we need to come together to pass a comprehensive reform bill that allows our economy to grow and protects our families.

As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I am focused on keeping our country safe. We must work with our allies to freeze and dismantle ISIL's finances, implement targeted airstrikes, and ensure our partners do their share fighting to take back more territory. We must also work to counter their vicious online propaganda machine that recruits new fighters.

Our nation’s energy grid, communications network, and other infrastructure are vulnerable to cyber-attacks and we must constantly look for ways to combat these threats.

Also, a stronger, more sustainable economy is critical for national security. This translates into stronger relationships with allies and trading partners and greater capacity to address emerging conflicts.

I voted against giving Congress a raise and helped pass No Budget, No Pay, which says if Congress doesn’t do its job and pass a responsible budget, they don’t get paid. I was also one of a few who returned my pay when Republicans shut down the government.

I'm also proud to be the co-chair of the Congressional Problem Solvers Caucus, the only group of its kind in Washington where both Republicans and Democrats actually work together to find common ground.

But my most important job is making government work for the people of the 7th congressional district. Since I came to Congress in 2013, my office has helped resolve over 6,000 constituent cases with the federal government, and recover more than $3 million in earned benefits to taxpayers.

I put people ahead of politics and and work to serve everyone in our district.
