The state and local jurisdictions must work together to ensure adequate housing is provided to our growing population. If the state is going to impose housing requirements on local jurisdictions, it is necessary that the state identify sources of funding for the local jurisdictions and provide those funds to assist with the increased costs of infrastructure, water, and law enforcement.

Civility is just as important among our elected leaders as it is among member of the general public.

I have consistently worked with people of varying partisan affiliations during my time on the Gilroy City Council, and have earned a reputation as a thoughtful and respectful leader. I attribute this to my upbringing. My mother was a vocal Republican, and my father a steadfast Democrat. While they often disagreed on political issues, they always did so with respect for one another. That example showed me how it is possible to disagree without being disagreeable.

I promise to continue to practice that my parents offered me when I serve in the state legislature.

The first priority is to ensure that water conservation remain a central focus for our district, even in non-drought years.

The second would be to ensure repairs to the nearby Anderson Dam, which supplies water for communities throughout the region. The recent incident in Oroville revealed the importance of maintaining and strengthening water supply infrastructure, and it would be among my top priorities to secure funding for improvements to this vital resource.

Our District has some of the lowest-performing schools in the highest crime areas. 

To address these failing schools, I propose wrap-around services for students. These services will address academic, legal, linguistic, and economic needs of the student. In this way we are able to address the comprehensive needs of the students. 

To pay for these services, I propose the state pursue delinquent corporate tax payers. Annually, these delinquents cost the state more than $25M. If we were to get serious about enforcing tax colletions, we can use the revenues to pay for the wrap-around services needed by the students at some of our lowest performing schools.
