Linda Sánchez was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2002. Linda is the first Latina to serve on the prestigious House Committee on Ways and Means where she works on tax, trade, retirement security, and healthcare issues. As a lifelong progressive Linda has devoted her life to helping working families, advancing our education system, and bringing jobs to the residents of Southern California.
Linda was born in the City of Orange to immigrant parents from Mexico. Her father worked as an industrial mechanic and her mother was an elementary school teacher. From her parents, Linda learned dedication, gratitude, hard work, and commitment to community. She graduated from UC Berkeley and earned a law degree from UCLA.
Before being elected to Congress, Linda worked as an attorney practicing appellate law, civil rights, and employment law. Linda worked for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 441 and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) as a compliance officer on public works and prevailing wage issues. Linda was elected executive director of the Orange County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO in 2000.
Linda was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2002, becoming the first woman IBEW member elected to Congress. She and her sister Loretta are the first women of any relation to serve together in Congress.
In her free time, Linda enjoys playing baseball with her son, spending time with her two dogs Brooklyn and Scully, hiking, reading, and cheering on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
