Biography

Jim DeBello is a life-long San Diegan, born in Grossmont hospital. He graduated with a B.A. and M.B.A. from Harvard University and was a Rotary Scholar at the University of Singapore, where he became an expert on foreign trade with a focus on China-U.S. relations.

A high-tech innovator who holds five patents, Jim is best known as the co-inventor of mobile check deposit used by 80 million consumers and the top banks in the world.

Jim has over 25 years of experience leading global technology companies. He served for 15 years as Chairman and CEO of Mitek Systems, building it into a world-class provider of identity verification and payment solutions. Prior to Mitek, Jim led Qualcomm’s Internet Software business unit and has been a dynamic entrepreneur in several innovative internet and wireless companies.

Deeply committed to public service, as a young man he helped implement social welfare policies for the County of San Diego and then joined the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service to fight national food insecurity. As a business leader he has created jobs for hundreds of San Diegans and raised over $100 million in growth capital for companies in the 52nd district.

A passionate American, Jim believes we need innovative ideas to solve our most pressing problems. He has the proven leadership and vision to think outside the box, create practical solutions and build consensus. His experience as a businessman allows him to successfully balance a budget and make sure our Congress doesn’t waste our money.

Jim is an avid sailor who loves our bay and wants to protect our coast. He believes San Diego is the best place in America, yet we are under-served in Congress by our current representative.
