Biography
Sonoma and Marin Counties deserve an experienced local leader who stands up for our priorities and
our values. I’ve been fighting for the North Bay for 18 years, including as a Marin County Supervisor,
Vice-Mayor of San Rafael, School Board President, and as a California Deputy Attorney General.
When PG&E was slow to act, I co-founded Marin Clean Energy and helped start Sonoma Clean Power,
giving the North Bay reliable green energy. I authored San Rafael’s first Climate Action Plan and will act
with urgency to tackle the climate crisis as our next Assemblymember. On the Bay Area’s regional
Metropolitan Transportation Commission, I’ve secured investments to improve public transit reliability,
improve bike and pedestrian safety, and fix our roads. I’m a champion for preserving open space and
wildfire prevention. I’ve secured funding for hundreds of affordable housing units and for
compassionate solutions to help the unhoused. I’ve fought for strong public education and an economy
that works for everyone. With Roe v. Wade under attack, I’ll ensure that California is a sanctuary for
access to safe and legal reproductive health care and a woman’s right to choose, and I won’t stop until
every Californian has the peace of mind that comes with universal health care.
I’m endorsed by the California Teachers Association, California Professional Firefighters, SEIU California,
the North Bay Building Trades Council, Sonoma County Board of Supervisors President James Gore,
Marin County Supervisors Judy Arnold, Stephanie Moulton-Peters, and Dennis Rodoni, Santa Rosa
Mayor Chris Rogers, San Rafael Mayor Kate Colin and dozens more. I would be honored to work for you
in Sacramento.

My Top 3 Priorities
- Climate change crisis. I have a detailed climate action plan outlining bold action to protect communities from drought, extreme weather, devastating wildfires, and rising sea levels, and to decarbonize our economy by 2030.
- Mental health services as part of affordable health care. Our communities have long faced a lack of support for mental health needs as older adults and others are more isolated.
- Affordable housing and homelessness. California is facing unprecedented homeless and housing crises. Growing numbers of older adults, veterans, and families with children are at risk, and there are few housing options our local workforce can afford.

My Top 3 Priorities
- Preserving community vitality in the North Bay. This includes supporting local businesses and preserving open spaces and family farms. I will expand housing options for teachers and other essential workers to live in the communities where they serve.
- Healthy Food and Agriculture Systems. I will fight for climate-friendly agriculture programs, champion funding for nutrition incentives that help low-income individuals and the local farm economy, and facilitate transitions to sustainable practices.
- Education and Youth. I support full and fair funding of California public schools to bring California into the top 10 in per pupil spending as well as supporting access to mental health counselors in schools, which is crucial for serving all students
Experience
Biography
The son of an immigrant, Steve Schwartz's dedication to the community and public service runs deep. Steve served in the Peace Corps, was a graduate fellow at the US Environmental Protection Agency, and was Chief of Staff to two California Assemblymembers. Schwartz, 56 years old, has more than 25 years of experience leading non-profit organizations that have had local, state, and national impact.
As an elected leader on the Gravenstein Union School District Board, Steve Schwartz earned the respect of many as he supported teachers, fought for equity in programming to serve all students, and expanded the District’s partnerships with youth sports programs.
Steve founded the non-profit California FarmLink in 1998 with a vision of helping farmers get access to land and capital. In 2012 Schwartz founded the Interfaith Sustainable Food Collaborative that has worked with over 400 faith-based groups and organic farmers to expand affordable access to local, farm-fresh products. His team has facilitated Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish congregations developing community gardens and nutrition incentives for low-income families. He led a coalition in 2021 successfully advocating for the State of California to, for the first time, augment federal Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program dollars.
Steve was honored to serve on the California Reinvestment Coalition’s state-wide board working to ensure banks invest in low-income communities and communities of color. His broader board leadership experience includes International Farm Transition Network, Sonoma County Farm Trails, Congregation B’nai Israel, and the Marin Food Policy Council. Steve lives and works in the newly created 12th Assembly District where he raises his daughters, and operates a small Sonoma County organic farm.

My Top 3 Priorities
- I want to make single payer healthcare a reality in California, with universal coverage, fully comprehensive benefits, and the freedom to choose care providers. Endorsed by Healthcare for All California, a leader on this issue.
- As a social worker, I see every day that the housing crisis is taking an extra toll on the most vulnerable members in our state. We must end housing insecurity with more affordable housing near transit and jobs built to green standards.
- The climate crisis is an existential threat we must address with urgency this decade. I believe there is an ethical imperative to solve all these critical issues simultaneously with the crisis of inequity.
Experience
Biography
I joined this race because I believe this election is crucial in so many ways. Not for just our district, but for California. Skeptics say I got into this race too late, but I don’t believe that for one second. I have a unique perspective and a voice for change that we have not seen in our AD 12 representation before. With the support I have received in just this short period, I know this campaign is resonating with people.
I’m a native Californian and a longtime resident of Marin City, one of five children born to working class parents living in public housing. As a child, I was part of Marin City and Sausalito’s school integration at Central Elementary and was bussed across town to school.
My mother, Betty Times, was a longtime activist and public servant in Marin. I too felt the need to serve my community in a more dedicated and personal way. I got my master’s degree in Social Work and this path interlinked with that of my late husband, Edward Lee Green, affectionately known as Boone. Together, we founded “One Kid at a Time,” a nonprofit dedicated to mentoring at-risk children and young adults. In doing this work, and thinking back to when I was a child being bussed, I accepted the appointment as a Sausalito Marin City School Board Trustee in 2014 and subsequently won election as the top vote-getter in 2018. In the 8 years I have served on the Board, we have been fighting to desegregate one of the most unequal school districts in the state. We brought people together to confront historic racism, economic differences, and a legal mandate from Attorney General Becerra to change. There is still work to be done, but we are forging a bright future for all the children in our district.
We need to build healthy, sustainable, equitable communities. We must listen to the voices that often go unheard. As a resilient Black woman, I know what it is like not to be heard. I want to change that.
