ELIZABETH ALCANTAR is an organizer, advocate, and leader who is focused on delivering for our communities. Elected to the Cudahy City Council in 2018, Elizabeth became the youngest and the first Latina to serve as Mayor. 

A lifelong resident of Southeast Los Angeles, Elizabeth attended Teresa Hughes Elementary School and Elizabeth Learning Center before pursuing a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology at California State University, Long Beach. Throughout her time in college, Elizabeth worked with students and alumni of ELC to host educational workshops on applying to college, obtaining financial aid, and even fundraised for scholarships for Cudahy students. She continued her advocacy alongside carwash workers with the CLEAN Carwash Campaign and later went on to serve as a Field Deputy for former Secretary of Labor, Supervisor Hilda L. Solis. She now works for the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) where she works to educate and organize community on the issue of immigration and ensures immigrant community members from Northeast L.A. to Southeast L.A. know their rights and feel confident in their fight for achieving a just society for all, regardless of status.

After seeing a gap in representation for young women in Cudahy, Elizabeth filed to run for city council. In November of 2018, Elizabeth was elected to the Cudahy City Council and consequently named Vice Mayor, making her the city’s first Latina vice mayor. The following year she served as Mayor in an unprecedented year where Elizabeth led her city through the Delta fuel-dump and the global coronavirus pandemic. She’s honored to serve the community that raised her and is focused on housing, increasing civic engagement, access to quality green space and environmental justice, and supporting Cudahy’s women and girls. Elizabeth represents the City of Cudahy on the Gateway Council of Governments, the Hub Cities Job Joint Powers Authority, and AQMD’s AB617 Community Steering Committee while serving on the California League of Cities, Women’s Caucus Board of Directors.

I have served as councilwoman of the City of La Habra for 21 years. I was elected in 2000, won reelection in 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, and have been honored to serve as Mayor in 2004, 2008, 2013, 2017, and 2021. I am humbled and grateful that the citizens I serve continue to elect me.

I am an ordinary citizen who chose to make a difference with my commitment and time to help make La Habra a better place to live and work.  My volunteer efforts to help at-risk low income children, has garnered national citations and awards including the “Points of Light” Foundation’s United States Presidential Volunteer Award. I have also received the prestigious National Caring Award which has also been awarded to several world-renowned individuals who promote and demonstrate acts of caring and humanitarian service. They include Mother Teresa, Father Gregory Boyle of Homeboy Industries, UCLA basketball coach John Wooden, and baseball Hall-of-Famer Cal Ripken, Jr.

As an experienced city councilwoman, I have managed taxpayer funds in an efficient manner. A prime example of that efficiency was our contracting with the LA Fire Department to build a fire station in 2005 to serve La Habra, La Mirada and Whittier for a better emergency response time. 

All citizens want assurance that their needs and expectations are being met by those whom they elect to serve them.  These include safer neighborhoods, affordable housing, medical coverage, quality education, all of which would enhance the quality of people’s lives in the 64^th District.

Ana Valencia is a proven community leader. Her leadership as an elected official has led to her addressing critical matters for the communities she represents. She brings not only a record of accomplishments but an understanding of the issues affecting residents.

First elected to her union, United Teachers Los Angeles, (UTLA) as Board Secretary in 2002, she was later re-elected and then served as UTLA/NEA Vice President. Her leadership, commitment and dedication to her students' education moves beyond her role as a teacher and advocate.

Ana was elected in November 2001, and served until April 6, 2020, as a Board Member for the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. There she served for nineteen years because her passion is education and her communities. 

In April 2020, Ana was elected to the Norwalk City Council and currently serves as Vice Mayor. A proud Norwalk homeowner, she continues to lead her community through action by focusing on changes for our working-class communities as a labor activist and a statewide spokesperson for education and community issues.

Ana is a teacher first-and foremost. Ana has taught Pre-Kinder through 7th grade at City Terrace Elementary, Kennedy Elementary, Los Angeles Academy Middle School, and Nimitz Middle School in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Her commitment to building safe neighborhoods, healthy families and quality educational environments stretches back to her earliest professional experiences. She has assisted young individuals in juvenile halls to receive an education, worked at shelters with youth who ran away from abusive homes and helped homeless youth reintegrate into society.

A life-long learner, Ana received a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from California State University, Los Angeles, and a California Teaching Credential from National University. She continuously takes courses and workshops that further develop her abilities.  She was born in Apatzingan, Michoacan, Mexico, and in 1998, Ana proudly became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Ana lives with her two dogs, Nana and Trixy.
