Leadership Makes a Difference

Comprehensive, ethical leadership makes a difference in school governance.

As a District leader, I have consistently championed a place where every student is important -– with a choice among schools and programs, an education relevant to their future, and a safe and supportive environment.

My experience on the board as a strong, ethical and fiscally responsible leader has equipped me to protect the extraordinary quality of our schools.

Students in the Fullerton Joint Union High School District are attending, graduating and excelling in record numbers as they prepare for transition to college and career.

Our district, with the financial support of our communities, is in the midst of such major improvements as science labs, theaters, libraries and gyms.  Our teachers, support staff and leadership personal are among the best.

My experience at the state level broadens my knowledge and ultimately helps to improve our award winning schools.  I serve on the policy making body and as a past president of a statewide educational organization (CSBA) dedicated to sound governance standards for school board members.

As a long-time resident of the community, parent of district graduates, PTA leader and community volunteer, I am committed to making sure that our schools deliver the exceptional education that our community demands.

Good Governance Upholds the Public Trusst

I'm proud to be a part of a school board team that does the job right, upholds the public's trust and provides the education that the community demands for our students.

What School Boards Do...

> Involve the community, parents, students and staff in developing a common vision for the district focused on learning and achievement and responsive to the needs of all students.

> Adopt, evaluate and update policies consistent with the law and the district's vision and goals.

> Maintain accountability for student learning by adopting the district curriculum and monitoring student progress.

> Hire and support the superintendent so that the vision, goals and policies of the district can be implemented.

> Conduct regular and timely evaluations of the superintendent based on the vision, goals and performance of the district, and ensure that the superintendent holds district personnel accountable.

> Adopt a fiscally responsible budget based on the district's vision and goals, and regularly monitor the fiscal health of the district.

> Ensure that a safe and appropriate educational environment is provided to all students.

> Establish a framework for the district's collective bargaining process and adopt responsible agreements.

> Provide community leadership on educational issues and advocate on behalf of students and public education at the local, state and federal levels.
