Ian was elected in November 2012 to represent California's 57th Assembly District, becoming the first millennial elected to the State Legislature. A product of the 57th District, prior to his election to the Assembly Ian worked as a field representative for the Legislature, which allowed him to assist residents in his community to navigate state and local government.

In March 2016, Ian became the youngest Majority Leader in the history of the state of California. As Majority Leader, Ian has led the Assembly to pass landmark legislation, such as raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2022 and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. He is particularly proud of legislation he authored that allows terminally ill Californians to attempt experimental treatments to try to save their own lives.

Ian currently serves as the Chair of the Select Committee on Youth and California’s Future and Co-Chair of the Legislative Technology and Innovation Caucus. He is a member of the Insurance Committee, Appropriations Committee, Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee, and the Elections and Redistricting Committee. In recognition of his work to foster innovation in California, Ian was named Legislator of the Year by TechNet in 2015, as well as the 2016 CompTia California Tech Champion. A champion of arts education, Ian received the California Association of Museums’ 2015 President’s Award and was named a Legislative Arts Champion by Californians for the Arts.

Ian graduated from California State University Long Beach, where he earned a degree in Political Science with a minor in Communication. He resides in Whittier with his wife, Elise, and their daughter, Charlie.

I have been the proud wife of a veteran for over twenty years and we have five grown children. We have resided in Southern California for all of those years and have been devoted members of our church.  During that time, I homeschooled our two youngest children and later become a substitute teacher for our local public school district. Prior to that, I have worked for feeral, and pritvate institutions.  Also duringthat time, I obtained a Juris Doctorate and will have completed a Master's degree in International Human Rights Law in May.  

Over the last twenty years, I have traveled extensively,visting both Asia and Europe for missionalry as well as legal conferences in France, Cambodia, Ukraine.  The experience gained through that travel has strengthened and hardened my resolve to protect our nation and citizenry from the threat of globalism.  

My desire is to serve the citizens of California by protecting their rights, enabling them to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

My political philosophy is grounded on the original intent of the framers of the Declaration of Independance and the United States Constitution.  Those documents have guaranteed and protected the freedoms of our citizens for nearly 250 years by setting up a government and legal system that is not easily toppled by the blowing winds of persuasive politicians that would tyrannize our citizens.  

Our nation was meant to enable citizens to pursue their dreams, whether it was through education or entrepreneurship.  In order to be effective, individuals should be hindered as little as possible through taxation and regulation, freeing them to employ and expand, bringing greater wealth and growing the middle class.  Without a thrving middle class, more people fall into poverty and become slaves to a state run bureacracy. 

The people of our state and country should be allowed their liberty so long as it does not infring upon the rights of others.  Currently, our rights as citizens are under attack from a liberal and misguided legislature that is taking a larger and larger portion of the income of its citizens to give to those who are not citizens and who are an economic liability. 

First and foremost, our nation was created to protect its citizens' rights which includes the right to bear arms, the right of the exercise of their religion and the exercise of free speech.  In an atmosphere of political correctiness, the mouths of those who can speak plainly about protecting the morality of our youth is in jeopardy. Our historical monuments are being torn down in an atmosphere of intolerance towards the original spiritual foundations that allowed our nation to be birthed.  The deconstruction of our civil and spiritual foundations must be protected from those who seek by onerous regulation and tyrannical laws to supplant a history and culture of people that came together because of the principles that it represents.  Americans come from many different ethnicities and the only thing that truly binds us together is the respect for our founding documents.  We are at a crucial time in our history, more so than at any other time and it is imperative, that if our nation's citizens wish to remain free, that we protect the freedoms and rights from assault. 

Justin Valero has spent his entire life in our 57th Assembly District. As a young man, he volunteered his time knocking on doors and making phone calls for various Democratic campaigns. As a college student, he taught speech and debate at El Monte High School and tutored grade schoolers in phonics and English.

Justin attended Whittier College, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Religious Studies. He went on to earn his Master's Degree in National Security Studies at California State University, San Bernardino. Upon graduating with honors, he was offered a faculty position at 25 years old. He continues to teach at CSUSB and has been invited on a number of occasions to lecture at Whittier College.

Let's change how California does politics.

Our legislature has a priorities problem. As the politicians in Sacramento congratulate themselves on how progressive and forward thinking our state is:

• We have a housing crisis that threatens the security of tens of thousands of hard working Californians.
• We pay more for healthcare and get less coverage, while our neighbors on MediCal are shut out from local hospitals.
• We have a criminal justice system that turns a blind eye to dangerous criminals and threatens the safety of our streets, while doing little to actually rehabilitate inmates.
• Our college students find themselves in financial ruin as they try to get an education due to increasing tuition and dwindling education funding. 
• Our children have limited access to a quality K-12 education unless they are lucky enough to live in Beverly Hills or Silicon Valley. 
• Our politicians in Sacramento take big contributions from Big Oil, Insurance Companies, Silicon Valley, and Charter Schools, while they take us for fools claiming they do “the people’s work”. 

We have challenges that require us to change California politics. Our plan focuses on the people, not big special interests.

• We need to make major investments in housing. Developers need less regulation and less red tape to get projects off the ground. We need to give incentives to landlords to encourage them to rent to more low and middle income tenants.
• We need to control the rising cost of drugs and healthcare. We need healthcare to be accessible and affordable for our families, friends, and neighbors.
• We need to make drug rehab mandatory when a kid gets busted for possession. That way they don’t get sucked into the prison pipeline. For those already in prison, we need more job training programs so, when released, they can be a productive member of society. Finally, we need to reform our broken parole system that lets out violent criminals back onto our streets. 
• We need to make investments in higher education. For every $1 invested in state schools, we get $3 back into the economy. We need to expand CalGrants and scholarship programs that help both students and parents stay out of financial ruin. 
• Our children need more availability for headstart and pre-k programs. Our high schoolers need more access to counselors and a curriculum that gets our kids ready for college and a 21st century economy. 
• We need political reform of campaign contributions and lobbyist’s access to politicians. That way corrupt politicians don’t waste our tax dollars on deals for their friends.

As your State Assemblyman, I promise to fight corruption and waste. I will fight for investments, not handouts. I will be a champion for the working family and the entrepreneur. I will be a true public servant. With your help, we’ll change California politics. 

My name is Blake Carter, and in 1,000 words in can be very hard to encapsulate oneself. The truth is, I am lot of things to a lot of different people. To my clients whom I serve that buy and sell properties with me, I’m a trusted real estate advisor and economist. To the people I meet every day on the campaign trail; I am empathetic and understand their pain and suffering. To the kids and adults which I have I taught baseball, drum lessons, swimming lessons, or guitar lessons; I’m a role model and example who listens and helps compartmentalize information that needs contextual understanding. To my friends on the outside looking in; I am the one who people come to for advice on what they dealing with every day on this big rock we call earth. I’ve earned every title I just mentioned above for one reason; I listened to my mentors and took from them the best thoughts and insights they had to offer humanity. I built myself by being a student of human behavior, and caring deeply about understanding what we all need to live happy, healthier lives despite the weight that is on our shoulders. To you reading this right now, I am concerned citizen. I didn’t come from money, my family immigrated here like everyone else who is not an Native American. I understand you, and I want to work for you.
