Housing is limited by current policy. Developers are discouraged from building by current regulations and fees/taxes, which significantly depletes our housing options and drives up the cost of housing for everyone. We should be working to reduce the factors that prohibit affordable house and we should be encouraging community programs to help build good mental health and job skills to reenter the job market. 

The cost of living has skyrocketed. I have personally experienced serious increases in rent and other expenses to the point that my ability to live comfortably has been impacted. Most people I've spoken with are in the same boat to one degree or another. Limiting housing and pushing up both rental rates and real estate rates leaves the citizens of California depleted across the board. When you couple that with the devastating effects of suppressing the job market, we end up with the worst impact on people who are already living in poverty. In addition, if people are receiving monetary support from public funds, they are actively discouraged from finding gainful employment. If they do find a starter job, they are punished with the removal of their funding. That means they are stuck at whatever rate they receive from public funding, even if that amount isn't enough to live on. 

It’s imperative we immediately reduce the factors that prohibit affordable housing. The cost of housing has risen to a rate that's leaving many homeless as a result. Land use fees should be suspended and land development encouraged to rebalance the system and increase available affordable housing.

The fabric of our culture has significantly eroded and needs repair. Returning to a place where we mutually value human respect is vital. Our political system is caustic, at best, and discourages moral integrity. We need to create a political environment where people feel comfortable participating and feel discouraged from behaving badly. All of our laws are back up with the threat of force and this inherently decreases our sensitivity to the threat of force. Basic human respect is lacking. 

The state should not be supporting corporations. When the state artificially props up a company, they no longer need to protect the natural resources required to have a successful business. This creates a lack of respect for the environment.

California has abundant water for our hot, sunny days. Resources are plentiful in California with appropriate management. Poor management has short-changed our ability to capture, store, and transport water for when it’s needed most. A practical approach to developing this infrastructure is needed immediately so that we enter our next draught season prepared.

California schools are currently ranked 42st in the Nation. Frankly, this is unacceptable. Educational opportunities allow children to blossom. Limiting our education to a rigid system makes it difficult for parents to choose what works best for their family and has led to the degradation of our schools. At the very least, we should support school choice, if not a complete overhaul of the current educational system.

Pension reform is needed.
