Another word for this is chain migration. While as a granddaughter of Mexican immigrants with relatives who live on the other side of the border, I understand that this severely undermines our immigration process. I wholeheartedly support family reunification as long as we make sure that everyone is going through the same process to get here.
I’ve been down to the border several times over the past couple of months. I’ve received border tours and briefings and saw first-hand the negligence of our federal government. Yes, the United States and Mexico have several fences between the two countries at the border. However, the fences as is are unsustainable and don’t do the job they were intended to do. This is a matter of national security and I support providing whatever infrastructure our border patrol agents ask for to make their jobs safer and more efficient.
I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States when I decided to run for office. That means that I will protect and defend every part of the Constitution including the Second Amendment. Right now we are hearing about a possible “assault weapons ban” but no one can come up with a definition for an assault weapon. It is irresponsible as leaders to talk about issuing a blanket ban on something that no one can specifically identify.
I support the intentions of NAFTA and the ease in which it allows the U.S. to trade with Mexico and Canada but I also support amending the agreement to ensure that the U.S. is not being slighted.
I would support making it easier for families to attain affordable healthcare with pre-existing conditions and other disabilities. This part of the Affordable Care Act made sense. Helping people who needed it. However, I do not support forcing a one-size-fits-all healthcare program on the nation. We have seen first-hand what socialized medicine did to both Charlie Gard and Alfie Evans and their families. Our citizens deserve freedom and there is nothing free about forcing healthcare on citizens and then controlling their quality of care.

Jobs & Economy
I am an avid supporter of America's free-market economy. I believe economic freedom goes hand-in-hand with individual freedom. Our ability to choose our career, build a business, or purchase products should be free from government coercion or unreasonable regulation. I believe the best way to grow the economy and create new jobs is by reducing taxes and allowing innovation to continue to provide the American people with better products and services as well as new industries and careers. I will be an ally to business owners and job creators.
What I'll do:
1. Support legislation that reduces federal tax burdens on California businesses.
2. Create economic incentives for California-made products to kickstart manufacturing and production to increase jobs and help provide stability to California workers.
Spending
We are more than $20 trillion in debt, and career politicians in DC have lost control at the helm – they have chosen, not only ignore our national debt, but make the problem much worse. I believes too many career politicians in Congress are enriching themselves by authorizing huge spending for special interest group projects, that were never seen or consented to by the taxpayers. I believe we need to restore the power back to the people and return to responsible fiscal governance.
What I'll do
1. Support zero-based budgeting, requiring government agencies to provide full transparency and justification for their funding.
2. Block any legislation that gives special interest groups hundreds of millions in kickbacks without the consent of the taxpayers.
Taxes
For decades, Californians have been hit from two sides at once. They’ve had their federal taxes raised by Congress, and their state taxes raised to historic levels by the California legislature. Millions of families have been forced to leave the state that they love because of these reckless spending policies. If elected to Congress, I will work line-by-line through the federal budget in order to lower spending, eliminate waste, and reduce the tax burdens on hard-working Californians.
What I'll do
1. Work with the House Appropriations Committee to build on the Trump tax cuts by ensuring California workers don't lost their local & state tax exemptions. Californians deserve real tax relief.
2. Work to eliminate unreasonable regulations to stop burdening small businesses with government overreach.
Veterans
Our nation is the land of the free because of the brave. For generations since our founding, brave Americans have put their lives on the line to stand against tyranny around the world. I will be a strong ally to our veterans and those who have sacrificed greatly for our nation. I am the only candidate in the race who has worked for three years directly under Commander, Naval Air Forces as Assistant Protocol Officer. I understand that our veterans have given so much for our nation. I believe we must do a better job in taking care of our veterans, and I will do everything in my power as Congresswoman to give them the care and services they have rightfully earned.
What I'll do
1. Work with Congress and the VA Secretary to implement increased oversight and accountability measures to the VA nationwide.
2. Expand rehabilitation services for combat veterans suffering from traumatic stress, and increase access to veteran job programs.
Marijuana
I believe the marijuana debate is fundamentally a states' rights issue. The 10th Amendment gives states the power to make decisions on issues like marijuana legalization. I support doctors having the right to prescribe medical marijuana and believe the economic benefits of legalizing recreational marijuana are undeniable. Additionally, the Cato Institute recently highlighted a study that found opioid overdose rates dropped 25 percent in states that legalized marijuana. While there are certainly risks that come along with any substance, I firmly believe this debate should be taking place without the disruption of an overreaching federal government. I support amending the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 to remove marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug.
National Security
National Security is one of the primary functions of the federal government. I will work with our U.S. Military and national security agencies to keep our nation safe and ensure the constitution is upheld in the process. One practical area I will immediately focus on is securing our southern border. I believe border security is national security. Just like securing our homes at night by locking our doors, we must secure our borders to keep Americans safe.

Biografía
I am a man of roots. I believe in family, friends, and community. Like all of you I have my own story: small town boy, big dreams and strong ties to what really matters in life.
Born and raised in Lemon Grove, California I attended Monterey Heights Elementary and Palm Junior High School. Mount Miguel High School in Spring Valley was my next stop; and after graduating in 1976, I headed off to Southwestern College in Chula Vista.
As with most people, I learned what I needed to in school, and then some. Football, basketball and track taught me the value of teamwork, but what I did not expect to learn was the value of mentorship.
Investing in people, whether as a recipient or giver, is one of the greatest cycles of hope we can participate in. Coaching both the girls and boys basketball teams at Mount Miguel (1977-78 & 1982-83 respectively) provided an avenue for me to give back to my community and encourage the next generation. Little did I
know then how that would transfer to a greater vision for our own state of California.
My career at General Dynamics in San Diego included 16 years at the Linbergh Field plant where I moved up the ladder through hard work and commitment. From commercial aircraft to proto type special projects for the military, missiles and space systems to my managerial experience at Boeing Satellite Systems for the past 18 years: my experience is now your experience as I pour and utilize all that I have learned back into you.
The traditional family values I hold strong are founded on my faith in God, and my parents own example of 65 years of marriage. My wife, Candette, and I hold to these same family values and are committed to live out such an example as my own mom and dad. We attend church at Skyline in La Mesa, California. My faith in God is my strength, guidance and moral compass.
As all small town boys do, I grew up. The years have brought experiences I never imagined, both joys and sorrows, but the essence of Matthew James Mendoza has not changed. Commitment, leadership, courage, strength, and character are all qualities we glean from our foundational core; all of which are intertwined with all of you, my community.

I do not believe that immigrants should be aloud to bring their family members to the United States.
In light of the continuing talks about immigration reform, we must put into place a firm foundation to build upon, a foundation that is rock solid in protecting America’s citizens and its borders.
We must secure our borders first, in order to ensure we do not have to endure another immigration debate 15 to 20 years down the road. Putting up a fence along with high-tech surveillance monitors should be the first action done to effect immigration reform.
NO more regulations on guns!!!
The NAFTA agreement must be equal to all parties.
What programs or legislation, if any, would you support to help Americans of all ages secure affordable health care?

Social Security
The Social Security issue has been going on for years and Congress has not taken the issue up on the floor of the Capital. Therefore it is imperative that the Social Security Fund is infused with cash. What the taxpayers don’t know is the fund has a $66 billion dollar cash flow deficit as of 2016. Congress needs to act soon or the cost to the American Tax payer will be 20 to 30% higher if they wait to act. Our younger generation may be looking at higher taxes and higher debt, and the elderly may be receiving only 75% of what they should be getting on their monthly checks. Stand with Matt and send him to Washington to be your voice on the Capital floor as he stands for middle class values.
National Security
The United States Military forces have been in a decline over the past few years by cutting Federal funding and also not renewing our serves men and women by keeping them on duty. We need to kick start our military with funding and showing them the country and its people are behind them.
As for our military, it should be second to none and to stand for Freedom at home and abroad. We must provide the best equipment for our men and women on the ground and in the air. Moreover to have the best equipment in space for communications and intelligent information.
It is my belief that our Country was put on this earth for a reason, it is to be the leader of Freedom and Liberty and a beacon of Hope in the world. Combat the foes of Freedom where ever they show their evil deeds, to stand for those who cannot stand against the tyrants of the world by themselves.
Jobs
Matt Mendoza will get government out of the way so we can get Californians working again. By cutting taxes, repealing regulations, balancing our budget and expanding domestic energy production, California can create new jobs. Sacramento must lower business taxes to attract companies to come back to California and prevent other companies from leaving to other states that have much lower business taxes and less frustrating regulations. If we can be business friendly, we will get the companies and therefore produce new jobs!
Fiscal Responsibility
California is broken. Matt Mendoza knows it will require taking on big government in three areas, overtaxing, overspending and over regulation. The solution is easy!!!! Every house hold knows that you should not spend more than you bring in. Our leaders in Sacramento obviously don't know this. As Californians we must push for an annual balance budget.
Border Security
In light of the continuing talks about immigration reform, we must put into place a firm foundation to build upon, a foundation that is rock solid in protecting America’s citizens and its borders.
We must secure our borders first, in order to ensure we do not have to endure another immigration debate 15 to 20 years down the road. Putting up a fence along with high-tech surveillance monitors should be the first action done to effect immigration reform.
Heavy fines should be given to employers that hire illegals. Employers that hire illegals are one of the major issues of this immigration debate and this should be addressed on a national scale.
It is the government that tells us it can run a successful migrant worker program, but currently there are over 1 million people that are in the United States that have overstayed their visa’s and the government does not know where they are. I believe they are too busy looking into law-abiding citizens that want to apply for a 501-C-4 nonprofit group, than looking into who is entering our country. Illegal migration is sucking California’s economy dry, taking over $15 billion in healthcare funding and entitlements. Soon many cities will be going the way of Detroit, Fresno, San Jose and Los Angeles, just to name a few.
Now crime is on the rise on the border states. Cutting off people’s heads is not happening just south of the border; it is also at our door steps. Crimes we see on TV news by the drug cartels in Mexico are now happening in the United States.
Our national parks are being used for cultivating marijuana. If a person goes on a hike at one of our Parks, they are running a risk that they may be shot at if seen. How much more do we as citizens of what used to be the greatest nation on earth have to endure? When are we going to say enough is enough? Tell our politicians, “if you do not do what the people want and need you to do, it is time for you to go”.
We are a nation that has a government, not the other way around. They have no power but that given by the people. It is time “We the People” need to stand firm and strong and demand changes.

I do believe in familiy reuinification being limited to the immediate nuclear family. However, I think it is important to create an easier path to immigration for ALL immigrants, regardless of skill or nation of origin.
No. It is a waste of money that will fail to stem the tide of undocumented immigrants or keep our country safe.
I do not support prohibition on firearms. I do support universal background checks, a closing of the private sale loophole, federal funding for peer-to-peer NICS checks, and mandatory reporting of prohibited persons from all 50 states and armed forces.
While we should remain in NAFTA, I support re-negotiating the labor and environmental rights sections in order to make them more comprehensive and high-caliber.
I support Bernie Sanders' Medicare For All Plan.

Biografía
Hi, my name is Brett Goda. At 34, I am asking to represent you in Congress as I believe I am uniquely qualified to represent you on today's pressing issues. At the age of 20, while attending the University of Pittsburgh, I was educated on how difficult the healthcare system was becoming and how it was affecting doctor's and their work. I made the decision then that I wanted to help as many people as possible and switch from Pre-Med to Pre-Law in hopes of one day going to Congress and fixing our laws to help more people. I graduated with a Political Science degree and moved to San Diego to attend Law School in 2008. There I found a joy for how our tax system worked and realized how overly complicated years of add-on regulations made the tax code. Upon graduating from Law School, I was recruited to financial services to help people invest their money efficiently with the tax code in mind. For the last four years I have been helping businesses outfit their offices and grow into new spaces. I have learned a lot about the different types of businesses all over the county. I have heard their struggles, I have learned their reasons for calling San Diego home and I understand how laws and regulations are making it harder for them to have their business.

I believe family unity is the core bedrock of the American Dream, however, for me this is the nuclear family, consisting of one or two adults and their children. If the individuals are older and have adult children, this would no longer be a part of their nuclear family and thus would need to qualify on their own.
I support the wall between the two nations. We need to make the border safer. There are laws and processes for coming into this country and we need everyone to start following these laws.
I believe everyone has a right to own a firearm. I would like to see a little more education take place before having the ability to buy a firearm. I believe the age of gun ownership should be 18. I believe the right to a firearm stems from protecting yourself from tyrannical government and thus believe people have the freedom to possess a firearm. However, like every other freedom we have in America, actions have consequences and I believe certain individuals can lose this freedom.
Yes. I believe in America first and we are the greatest Nation of all the world. To continue that strength, we need to have strong relations with our neighbors and build them up. Also, I believe NAFTA is essential to our continued growth and evolution of the American as we embrace new work forces.
The healthcare system has become overly complicated. We need to open up new opportunities for alternative options and make it easier for people to get the healthcare they need. We need to open up the health insurance market to provide flexibility of services. Our current insurance system is breaking, instead of giving people the freedom of healthcare it is creating a system of the have's and have not's.

"We the People," and "Land of the Free" should not just be statements or historical phrases that we once knew. We need to limit government and give People the Freedom and Opportunity to create their own lives. A person should not be entitled for being born here. A person needs to work hard and build something for their life and they should have every opportunity to do that. No race or socioeconomical status should deter anyone from their dreams. The government should not be picking winners and losers.
