Dedicated, smart, and determined, Ellen is among the hardest working members of the school board. Her deep roots in the community and unique perspective as a former classroom teacher make her an invaluable asset to the board. I'm supporting Ellen because she consistently shows-up for Sacramento children and families and understands better than anyone the relationship between quality teaching and lifetime student success.
Jessie Ryan, President, SCUSD Board of Education
Ellen Cochrane’s dedication and experience as a classroom teacher has been extremely valuable as we work to improve the academic achievement of all students in our district. She continuously, and unapologetically works to ensure all our students and families get the attention and support that they need.
Michael Minnick, Second Vice President, SCUSD Board of Education
I'm proud to support Ellen Cochrane for Sacramento School Board because she understands the challenges students face in the classroom. As the only credentialed teacher on the board, Ellen brings 20 years of knowledge and expertise. She has been a fierce advocate for our neighborhood schools and is passionate about improving outcomes for all students.
Mai Vang, SCUSD School Board Trustee
Ellen Cochrane has a proven track record of delivering the needs and services that make public schools successful. Whether it is a program or facilities, Ellen works tirelessly on behalf of the kids our District serves. She has integrity and is not afraid to ask the tough questions. If there is a way to improve, then Ellen will ask how. I fully support Ellen for her re-election to the Sacramento City School Board.
Rob Ferrera, Former PTA President, Theodore Judah, Parent
Ellen Cochrane is not only a fierce and dedicated advocate for our kids, she’s a leader who follows through on her commitment to students, parents, and teachers. As a mother of three students in the SCUSD school system, it’s important to me that our school board members are directly communicative with us, and responsive to our concerns: Ellen Cochrane is both—she shows up to our PTG meetings, responds to calls and e-mails, and, most importantly, she gets things done. When I contacted Ellen to let her know one of the AC units at David Lubin Elementary had stopped working she made sure the problem was addressed the very next day! Our kids, parents, and teachers deserve someone like Ellen on the school board: someone who is deeply committed to ensuring that the varied needs of all students within the SCUSD school system are being served.
Liberty Sanchez, David Lubin, Parent
Ellen Cochrane has been a committed, energetic, and thoughtful school board member. In working with Ellen for many years I have experienced an approachable leader with great vision and compassion who will continue to support change and the advancement of an improved educational system in SCUSD.
Shannon Hardwicke, Theodore Judah, Sutter, Parent

Julie Murphy, Marshall School Neighborhood Resident
Ellen is super responsive. If she doesn't know the answer she gets right back to you, immediately. She's my choice.
Patty Wait, Midtown Resident
Ellen Cochrane was instrumental in supporting David Lubin Elementary School become a STEAM certified elementary school; the first in the District. She listens to parents and families and follows through on her commitments. Ellen offered David Lubin families her intelligence, guidance and advocacy as we navigated School Board meetings and community forums. She spent many hours coming to meetings, answering phone calls and responding to emails. During my time on the Board of David Lubin's Parent Teacher Group, I could not have asked for a stronger ally at the District than Ellen.
Jennifer Aten, David Lubin, Parent
Ellen Cochrane is the only teacher on the school board. In addition to her board work with SCUSD, she worked with Sacramento City Unified student to create a scholarship based on local graduates’ Community Service Projects. I think her experience as a teacher kicked in when she interviewed these kids and helped present their awards. She was beaming, they were beaming.
Janet Maira, President, East Sacramento Preservation
I was in a panic and Ellen listened, really listened, to me. She cares about the well-being of my child, a student in the district. She has all the best qualities of an educator and a trustee. I am grateful she is on the school board.
Suzi Byrd, David Lubin, Sutter Middle, McClatchy HS parent
The only School Board member who was a credentialed teacher, Ellen Cochrane brings a real-world classroom perspective to Board policy considerations. That makes her voice pretty unique and vital. Experience and informed advocacy trumps rhetoric any time. She’s got the experience and has served wonderfully. You bet I’ll vote for her again.
Josh Hoover, Theodore Judah, Sutter Middle, West Campus HS, Parent
I’m proud to endorse Ellen Cochrane for another term as our School Board Trustee. I voted for her the first time because she was the only teacher running. She proved that my vote was a good one. Her constituent service is superb. She stood firm for teachers and students. She pushed for and got campus repairs. I’m very glad she’s running again.
Martin Palomar, Theodore Judah Neighbor
As a neighbor of Hiram Johnson High School, I saw the school’s tennis courts were in complete disrepair and unusable by students and community members. I contacted Ellen, and she worked with the school administration and district to get the courts resurfaced and new nets installed. Ellen understands the importance of city neighborhoods and schools helping each other to create high-quality learning environments for all students.
Jennifer Laflam, Hiram Johnson HS Neighbor
Ellen helps teachers work with all students and she is dedicated and so responsive when contacted—she got back to me immediately to help me advocate for students at a large comprehensive high school. She is a responsive board member who responds quickly to teachers and students when we need her.
Kim Kim, Kit Carson International Baccalaureate, Teacher
Ellen Cochrane has been a true advocate for Hiram Johnson High School. She takes SCUSD’s core value of equity to heart. Ellen has championed refurbished tennis courts, repair and reopening of our pool and now the safety renovations of our track and field. Ellen pushed the view that these are not just athletic facilities, but they are also academic facilities, requirements for our Physical Education and JROTC departments. Her advocacy is vital to continuing the renaissance at Hiram Johnson High School.
Ryan Peterson, Hiram Johnson, JROTC, Teacher
As a long-time public-school teacher, Ellen Cochrane has a passion for achieving the highest possible level of education for each student in our district. Throughout her term, I have witnessed Ellen continually utilize the necessary expert skills required to work collaboratively with the Board, faculty, and administration to benefit the SCUSD community as a whole.

The skunk had burrowed under a classroom and the odor was terrible, so bad that the teacher got severe headaches. The students sat at their desks with all doors and windows open on very cold days. Ellen helped our principal fix this problem. Thank you!
Gloria Sattler, Parent, Phoebe Hearst Elementary
Until Ellen got on the school board Old Marshall School was a neglected eyesore in the neighborhood. She's led the charge to remodel the old school. She's for the neighborhood and I'm for her.
